Hi, I’m Bermi Ferrer, a Spanish web developer.
I tough myself basic at the age of 9 back in 1987 using an Epson QX-16. Since then, my passion for computers and technology have helped me to learn by myself all the skills I have today.
In 1998 I founded my first company at the age of 19, becoming the youngest entrepreneur whose project was backed by the SGR. After five years of working in the jewelry sale and distribution business, I decided to follow my passion and started a Web Development and Hosting firm named Akelos Media.
At Akelos Media I developed our flagship product InmoEasy, a web application for showcasing properties in multiple languages and worked Administrating Linux servers.
In 2004 I started developing the Akelos Framework (a version of Ruby on Rails for PHP) and spent four years creating custom Intranets, document management systems, B2B sales systems and small business sites.
I moved to Barcelona in 2004 where in 2007 I got involved with the iWeekend association, a non-for profit organization that empowers Internet entrepreneurship.
In February 2008 I founded a company named Bermi Labs for creating web applications for start-ups in the Barcelona area.
Since 2010 I’ve been working remotely as a Lead Engineer for Fluid, Inc (based in San Francisco & NY) creating eCommerce sites for top brands like Jeld-Wen,Lancôme, Benfit Cosmetics, Theory, The North Face, Calvin Klein Fragrances and Sears using technologies like Demandware, PHP, Javascript, symfony, ruby and Flex.
I consider myself language agnostic but feel more productive when writing code using PHP, JavaScript, Ruby and Python. My areas of interest and expertise include creating complex web applications in agile environments, designing high availability systems with limited resources, inventing and developing sexy and magic user interfaces, creating RESTful Web services, internationalizing systems, creating unit tested code, setting up development workflows with git and Continuous Integration systems and keeping up to date with the technologies that allow me to solve complex problems in simple ways.
I’m lucky to share my life with Alicia Sadurní a crafty girl with many artistic skills – she has created some designs for my sites and customers. We both share a passion for reading, creating stuff we dreamed about, traveling around the world and pursuing new challenges like learning Japanese!.
On this website you’ll find my contributions to the Open Source community, professional projects, articles and interesting news and links related to my work.
